RG2011... Fw: HOW LONG IS THE RENAULT GRAND ESPACE?

HOW LONG IS THE RENAULT GRAND ESPACE?

Renault Grand Espace  (version III) is longer by 270mm or 27cm than the standard Renault Espace, but how does it compared to other popular Japanese MPV in our Malaysian market?

The dimension shows that GRAND Espace is actually the shortest and lowest MPV here. However, the visual design shows it as a long MPV. I do this simple research as I feel my Grand Espace have better boot space compared to others but a little small for an adult at the rear; compared to the others as listed and now I know some of the reasons.

The short dimensions combined with lower roof and very slanting front windscreen add to this smallish feeling. The newer Grand Espace IV feels more cramped inside even compared to the Grand Espace III. Maybe the bigger size seats affect it.

Grand Espace Fuel Consumption

Fuel consumption is a popular issue or subject to be discussed.
our "lowered" Grand Espace with full load (2 adults +
our 6 kids + baggages)

My previous Renault Espace III 2.0 8v petrol, in general can reach (full tank)

  • 90% Highway (average 110kmh) : about 700-750km
  • Mixed : about 550-650km
  • Most city : the worst.. about 480-550km only

When I used my existing Renault Grand Espace III 2.0 16v petrol, I was suprised that I cannot get better fuel consumption than the previous unit. Theoritically, the 16v engine is more efficient and therefore, should also be quite more economical than the 115bhp 8v (the 16v has 140 bhp.. when its new)
Caltex petrol is my new favourite. It really improve
performance and efficieny of my Espace engine.

After some minor improvements and tweaks, Alhamdulillah I can get extra mileage; which about 700km+ for a full tank of petrol, consists mainly of 110kmh highway. The minor tweaks are

  • Pumped up the tyres to the recommended pressure (because it is quite under inflated before)
  • Use different petrol. Previously I dont care much. Now after 3 full tank of Caltex Techron 95, felt the engine more responsive (especially when climbing hills) and that maybe helps to reduce engine strain.
  • Repair the air hose. The engine air hose which channel air to the engine is actually has some tear, therefore the engine is also sucking hot air from the engine bay thus reducing the engine efficiency. (Colder air helps improve engine efficiency in hot & humid countries)

The air hose was "repaired" with a masking tape.
The original hose was soft and tear easily.

That's all the minor tweaks done and it really helps. Maybe if I only drive an average and consistent 80-90kmh, and slow acceleration; I am quite sure the fuel consumption will further improved. But frankly speaking, driving the Espace at consistent 80-90kmh, is a very challenging thing to do, as you feel the vehicle is so slow.. like you want to sleep la.

So, happy driving and take care.
