RG2011... Wonders of Madagascar: new species

 

In the period from 1999 to 2010, the World Wildlife Fund found 615 new species in Madagascar - one of the richest tropical habitats on the planet. However, many of these species are threatened with extinction because of deforestation and the illegal trade in wildlife.

As you may have guessed, today we look at some new kinds of animals living in Madagascar.

Scientists say that this is an amazing discovery, since previously the area thoroughly and repeatedly examined for the presence of new species of reptiles. Again, lemurs

In 1992, only two species of mouse lemurs. Since then, the number rose to 15 species, including a lemur, which we have already seen above. Even within a single species can find a great variety. Scientists have discovered 70 mouse lemurs of different colors in different parts of Madagascar, but after careful study have concluded that they all belong to one species.
