Tata has introduced the Nano Twist, a much needed improvement over the original. It retails for nearly half the price of a Perodua Viva but is it half the car?
Small cars are very popular as not only are they light on fuel, but because of their rather miniature dimensions, are easy to manoeuvre through narrow city streets and park in spaces that would prove too small for anything larger than a Perodua Viva.
Apart from these two selling points, small/ compact cars are relatively cheap to buy, insure and maintain. But the problem is, just because they are cheap, doesn't mean they are good. Take the Tata Nano for example. It's the most affordable car in the world and was introduced to allow motorcyclists in India to trade two wheels for four without feeling much of a pinch.
Tata had huge plans for the car but unfortunately, the Nano fell short of the expectations by a mile. With safety concerns and reports of a number of them catching fire, the car wasn't well received.
As a whole, the Nano was as appealing as syphilis, went like a snail and sounded like a scooter running on kerosene. The interior design and build quality was abysmal to say the least. The worst part of it all was how badly it fared in crash tests, GlobalNCAP conducted one and gave the Nano zero stars, that's right! The car couldn't be graded. Instead of rambling on about the reasons for the lacklustre results, here's a video by the GlobalNCAP proving my point.
Now, Tata has given their micro car a few upgrades and called it the Nano Twist. Since the original, the automaker has been adding features such as a glovebox, a left wing mirror and audio system, improving the mechanicals such as engine and gearbox gradually so as not to cause a sharp increase in manufacturing cost. As such Tata has taken an evolutionary approach instead of a revolutionary one when trying to make their "People's car" more appealing to the general public.
Right now, the Nano Twist retails for Rs. 2.36 lakh, which when converted to Ringgit is around RM12,643.70. The smallest reasonably priced car we have in Malaysia is the Perodua Viva, its fairly bigger than the Nano but can be considered its closest rival. The Viva (660BX costs RM24,924.30) is about twice the price of the Nano, but is it twice the car? You be the judge. Specifications for both cars are as follows:

The truth is that our so called national car proton and also perodua is no match against tata twist. Forget about the accidents that Tata Nano cost, This avatar of nano has been upgraded, I've saw it in youtube, and I need it admit it is the cheapest car in the world. If government can show their "MALAYSIA BOLEH" and not jaguh kampung, why don't they lower the tax of the car and see how far they can go. I bet there will be lots of things that our government need to learn once Proton and Perodua bankrupt. Our car is too overprice and believe it or not, the is the only country that the car price is same as a house price. All they do is just sucking our blood.

i'm not interested in viva or nano, i'm only interested if they lower the price of cars here so the price of cars will be the same as any other asian countries.

If Nano is to be sold in Malaysia for RM12k +, I would buy it in an instant. But sadly the Malaysian govt will not allow the Nano to be sold so cheaply, for fear of the Rakyat dumping their protons for it.

RM 12k is the price of a motorbike, using it to buy a car is considered cheap.
RM 25k is the price of 2 Harleys, using it to buy a Viva is stupid.
The shock absorbers and glove box is surely not worth RM13k. - buah kelubi •
this nano can do more damage than good to city roads and highways. It would be dangerous with idiots who just got their driving license and decided to buy a brand new first car. Imagine currently we have vivas being easily driven into ravines and easily crashing into lamp posts, now this nano would have a far devastating impact, driven at stupidly high speed and with an idiotic light weight design, we could literally have a huge pile of nano wreckages by the roadsides all over malaysia. PLEASE DO NOT PUT NANOS ON THE ROADS OF MALAYSIA!!!!!!!!!.
