Cars based on other cars
Nowadays, it's a common trend to build a number of vehicles from a single platform. It's a strategy adopted by many manufacturers to save cost while offering more models to the ever-increasing needs of the current market. We have compiled a list of five vehicles that have been created based on other vehicles. We have included more humble offerings like the Proton Inspira to the the downright insane Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG.
Proton Inspira
Based on: Mitsubishi Lancer
Though many consider the Inspira as a lancer knock-off, the Malaysian made car is far from it. It's basically a Mitsubishi Lancer but what Proton has done is allow a small company from the UK known as Lotus, to have a go at the suspension. So what you get is a car that handles properly and since it looks like a Lancer it will often pass of as one too.

Perodua Myvi
Based on: Daihatsu Boon
Perodua and Daihatsu have enjoyed a long and prosperous joint venture for many years. The previous generation Myvis had a lot more in common with their Daihatsu counterparts than the current car. Today's Myvi has the same body panels, but underneath things are a little different. The 1.5-litre engine that's offered with the EXTREME car comes from Toyota while the interior is tailored to the Myvi.

Comparing the two would be like comparing night and day. The Focus ST is a very different kettle of fish to the Focus. Powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine the Focus ST is the hottest of the hatches on sale today, it offers razor sharp handling and cornering ability this side of a Ferrari 458. Priced just shy of RM209,000, the Focus ST is probably the performance bargain of the decade.

One is a family saloon while the other is a 4WD fire-breathing monster that just feels at home on a muddy rally stage as it does on asphalt. Under the exterior of a fairly docile Lancer, lie a slew of electronic systems that are just as complex as the ones on a space shuttle.

The 6.2-litre V8 engine pumps out a colossal 525bhp, which means it, will offer unbelievable sideways action and a magnificent sounding V8 that will make you wonder why they bothered fitting a stereo.
