These three lakes have different names, the locals believed that the lake is the resting place of their ancestors.
A change in color of the lake depends on the mood of the spirits.
Lake seniors (Tiwu Ata Mbupu) on the western point of the volcano, usually blue in color. As locals say, in this lake, and the wise old rest the spirits of earth
Near the other two lakes, which are separated by only a wall of the crater. Lake boys and girls (Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai) has a characteristic green color. And the third is called "The Enchanted Lake" (Tiwu Ata Polo), it usually has a blood-red hue, but when shooting becomes olive hue.
Water samples no one would, but more likely the unusual color of the lake required gases and steam, which produces a volcano. The gas contains sulfur dioxide, hydrogen chloride and sulfide, and carbon dioxide.
Mount Kelimutu is located in the eponymous national park on the island of Flores. The island is only 350 miles long, and the nearest town 60 miles away. Nearby is the village Moli, who is also the base camp for tourists.
Nobody can guarantee that you will see the water because of a certain color it is constantly changing depending on the weather and the amount of ejected gas. The most vivid pictures are made mainly at dawn and dusk, during the day the water in the lakes noticeably cloudy.
The lakes are dangerous, they have already taken a few souls tourists.
For example, in 1995, a Dutch tourist fell off a steep slope. They searched for him for fifteen days, but his body was never found. Since that day, all along the trail was built fence that tourists do not dare to go.
